Life is Beautiful

I believe that everything happens for a reason, and today was a testimony to it. I left my constitutional interpretation class a little early today because I felt like clearing my mind. I got on the metro at Dupont Circle around rush hour, which meant that I had to stand since all the seating was taken. I unconsciously decided to wear my Florida Gators shirt and because I did, a middle aged gentleman who was standing next to me sparked a conversation. At first it was light, talking about Florida football and basketball and how he graduated from the University of Florida law school back in 1990. Then, he started talking about his experience as a Peace Corps volunteer in Guatemala (and if you haven’t read my past posts, I just recently applied to the Peace Corps). He said that it had changed his life and is one of the main reasons he’s where he’s at today. I told him a little bit about myself, including my internship at Treasury and my future aspirations. He gave me his business card, and I quickly took notice that he was a foreign service officer at the State Department. I was completely shocked and overjoyed at the same time and told him that I had been selected for an internship at State for the summer. We continued to talk for a good ten minutes. Before he got off at the Crystal City metro stop, he wished me luck in all my future endeavors and said that I was heading in the right direction. It is amazing who we cross paths with in this life and how simple one minor detail, like choosing to wear my Florida Gators shirt, can send your life in a whole new direction.
